Alphabet Apple Tree

This is a fun activity to do that is easy to create.

You will need green construction paper (or just color a tree green using a green crayon on a white paper) and draw in the roots/trunk.

Using these awesome circle stickers (link to the ones I use) and write out the alphabet out on two different colors of circles (I chose red and yellow). I put the red ones "in the tree" and left the yellow one on the sheet.

We then matched the letters with each other.

So how to we engage language during this activity you ask...

1) As you select each letter, depending on your child's age, he/she can label the letter OR you can tell them what letter that is. Then share what sound that letter makes. If they are at an age where they can tell you a word that starts with that letter, have them do that OR you can support them by giving them two options and say "hmm which letter start with the B sound, Ball or Cat?" and support them as they figure it out.

2) A good way to support their connection of the letter to the sound it makes, is by associating it to things they love. For example, L is for Lulu (my daughters baby sister) and after that she continued to say "L is for Lulu." The association with preferred people and items helps with retention of the letter and sound it makes.
